This was a crossbow I designed for an indie studio known as Darkbit for their currently unnamed project. It has been a blast working with the team so far and you can expect a lot more like this in the future!

The design was interesting for this piece. It has been a long time since I have had to run through so many differing ideas before I finally came up with a decent design. Especially for a weapon, which is normally something I can get pretty creative with. Thankfully, on this asset, I had a team full of constructive criticism and ideas this time around to really help me. The concept we landed on was a magazine fed double-barreled shotgun/crossbow hybrid weapon with multiple shell types. (Shells and new mags will probably come later down the production line stay tuned!) I took notes on crossbows from several cultures as well as looked through art for some popular steampunk/fantasy titles that I enjoy and ended up with a design that I feel resembles the medieval equivalent of a Ranger from MW2 2009.
The Scatterbow is designed to be fired in two stances; shouldered, the player positions themselves with the cheek rested while utilizing slug style ammunition, or "Chainsaw" style with the players off-hand on the cycling handle and the other on the birds-head style grip. Rather than more accurate slugs, this would use less accurate, more spread-focused ammo types such as flechette or buckshot.
